전세계적으로 일어나고 있는 국간 간의 문화적,경제적,정치적 통합(globalization)과 포스트모더니즘의 확산으로 인해서 많은 것들이 폭 넓게 받아들어지는 다양화(diversification)가 진행되고 있습니다. 크리스찬들도 이런 통합과 다양화의 환경 안에서 살고 있습니다.이것은 악한 것들이 쉽게 우리에게 전달되어서 문제라는 시각으로 볼 수도 있지만, 오히려 우리에게 맡겨진 하나님의 말씀을 우리가 지구 반대편까지 전달하기도 쉬워지고 있다는 것으로 보았으면 좋겠습니다.
또한Millennials이라고 불리는1980년초부터2000년초에 태어난 세대의 청년들을 만나보면 미래학자 레너드 스윗(Leonard Sweet)이 말한EPIC (Experience; Participatory; image-rich; connected)의 특징을 많이 가지고 있는 것으로 보입니다. 이 세대는 쉽게 동원되지는 않지만,스스로 옳다고 확인한 것에 대해서는 강한 돌파력을 가지고 뚫고 나가는 힘이 있는 것으로 보입니다. 코스타는 이들이 충분히 공감하고 설득될 수준의 깊이 있고 강력한 메시지를 전하고 경험을 나눔으로 이들이EPIC적 성향을 가지고, 각자의 매일 매일의 삶에서부터 세상 속으로 더욱 깊숙히 걸어들어가서 하나님의 말씀을 전하는데turning point로써 도움이 되었으면 좋겠습니다. 이들이 더욱 지속적이며 다양한 모습으로 세상 끝까지reach-out해서 강력한 하나님의 말씀을 선포할 세대가 아닌가 생각해봅니다. |

멕 시코 시티에서 임흥진 목사님, 이하영 부장 집사님, 그리고 세명의 자매님들 (김혜인, 박유은, 박유민)께서 이번 시카고 코스타에 참여하셨습니다. 임흥진 목사님은 멕시코 시티에 오신지 8개월 되셨다고 합니다. 어떻게 시카고 코스타를 참여하셨는지 여쭈어보니, 목사님께서는 멕시코 시티에 오시기 전에 중국에서 사역을 하셨다고 합니다. 중국에 계실 때 북경 코스타에 참여하셨고, 그 때 좋은 시간을 가지셨다고 합니다. 그래서, 멕시코에 가시자 마자(^^) 교인분들과 함께 시카고 코스타에 오셨습니다.

3년쯤 전이었던 것으로 생각합니다.
참석자들이 낸 헌금봉투를 정리하고 있었는데, 한 헌금봉투에 다음과 같이 써 있었습니다.
” 저는 지난 몇년동안, 2불짜리가 행운을 가져다준다고 믿었습니다. 그래서 이것을 지갑에 꼭 넣어놓고 다녔습니다. 그렇지만 이번 집회에서 복음을 알고 나니, 그것이 이제는 가치없는 것이 되었습니다. 더 이상 2불짜리를 지갑에 넣고 다닐 필요가 없게 되었습니다. 이제는 하나님께서 함께하신다는 것을 알게 되었습니다. 그래서 이제 이것을 헌금으로 드립니다.”
그리고 그 헌금봉투 안에는 2불짜리 지폐가 들어있었습니다.
큰 액수의 헌금 보다 훨씬 더 마음을 울렸습니다. |

이후 브레이크 아웃 세션은 5개의 소그룹으로 나뉘어져 조장들에게 필요한 스킬을 전수(?)했습니다. 1. 왕초보 조장의 KOSTA 길라잡이 2-1. 조원을 부탁해: 영혼을 돌보는 소그룹으로서의 조운영 2-2. 복음을 전하는 소그룹으로서의 조운영 3. 새내기 기혼조장의 기혼조 운영 4. 소그룹으로서의 기혼조 운영.

베스 엘리어트 여사의 일생에 대해서 그리고 그분의 말씀을 인용하심으로 말씀을 전해주셨습니다. 일생을 예수 그리스도를 위해 살아오신 엘리자베스 엘리어트 여사께서 지난 주에 소천하셨다고 합니다. “I HAVE only one desire now. 나의 모든 에너지와 힘을 하나니을 위해서 다 쏟아붔는 것이다. 우리 인생에서 죽을만한 가치가 없으면 살만한 가치가 없다.” (엘리자베스 엘리어트) 만일 우리가 잠깐이라도 주님께 헌신하지 않았다면, 인생은 계속 진행되는 것이기 때문에, 계속해서 헌신해야 하는 것이라고 총장님을 강조를 하셨습니다. “나의 삶을 주께 서렌더 하면, 모든 것이 괜찮다.” (엘리자베스 엘리어트). 총장님께서는 “내 삶이 하나님의 손에 있으면 가장 안전합니다 (내 손에 있는 것 보다). 하나님께 20:24)의 본문을 풀어서 전해주셨습니다. “예수님께서는 우리의 처소를 예비하시고, 우리를 영접하신다고 약속하셨습니다. 우리는 이 땅에서 열심히 살고 끝나는 것이 아니라, 주님께서 예비하신 골라인을 바라보며 달립니다.” “하나님은 우리에게 사명을 주시고 일하라고 하십니다. 일하라고만 하시는 것이 아니라 필요한 것을 채워주십니다.” 목사님께서는 지금 목사님께서 주님께 드리는 기도의 내용을 나누어주심으로 설교를 마치셨습니다. “나를 나보다 더 사랑하시는 주님의 영접을 받는 것 – 그것이 내 생의 전부입니다. 내 마지막 기도 제목은 “죽음 그 자체가 내 손주들에게 축복이 되게 하여 주옵소서. 내가 살았던 것인 주님의 축복이 되었다면, 죽음도 축복이 되게 해주옵소서.” 평생 열심히 주님을 향해 달려오신 지난 30년간 인도하신 하나님께 감사하는 시간을 가졌습니다. 가장 많이 오신 분은 29번 오신 김태평 목사님이십니다. 25+번은 장평훈 교수님이십니다. 김태평 목사님은 미국에 거주하시고, 장평훈 교수님은 한국에 거주하십니다. 한국에서 거의 매년 미국 코스타에 오는 것이 쉬운 일을 아니었다는 장평훈 교수님의 얼굴에서 정말 쉽지 않았다는 것을 알 수 뜬금없이 아내에게 물었습니다. “:하나님은 우리를 어디로 보내신것 같아요?”
“어디로 보내긴요, 우리 사는 동네로 보냈죠.”
“아니 그거 말고….”라고 대꾸하긴 했지만 무심코 던진 아내말이 정답인 것 같습니다. 지금 내가 살고 있는 그곳, 내가 하는 그 일, 내가 만나는 그 사람들 속으로 보내셨다는 것이 ‘우리사는 동네’가 아닐까 싶었습니다. 직장에서의 일 속으로, 동료들 속으로, 캠퍼스 속으로 가정 속으로, 하나님은 보내셨습니다. 그러고 보면 하나님의 마음은 제가 있는 그곳, 제가 하는 그 일, 제가 만나는 모든 만남가운데 계십니다. 하나님이 바로 그 일 속으로, 그 관계 속으로, 그 만남속으로 저를 보내셨으니까요.

왜를 생각하며 저는 무엇을 해야하나(do)가 가장 먼저 떠올랐습니다. 보냄 받은자로서의 to-do list 적어보다가, 문득 보다 중요한 것은 무엇을 하는 것이 아니라 그냥 그곳에서 살아가는 것 (be)을 깨달았습니다.
그냥 보냄받은 자로 살아가는 것. 내가 사는 그곳- 그 일터, 그 사람들, 그 관계-에서 보내심을 받은 자로 살아가는 것 (Be and live as the sent)이 저를 이곳에 보내신 이유가 아닐까 생각해 봅니다. 이곳, 하나님의 마음이 있는 바로 이곳, 저의 삶의 자리에서, 하나님의 방법대로 살아가라고, 그곳에서 하나님을 사랑하며 이웃을 사랑하고 살라고 보내신 것은 아닐까 생각해 봅니다.
