믿음의 형제, 자매들의 축복가운데 시작된 우리의 삶은 보냄받은 자로서의 삶으로 계속 이어졌다. 하나님이 사용하시고 싶은 곳으로 보내주세요라고 기도하며 포닥자리를 찾고 있었는데 하나님께서는 2005년 3월에 지원했는데 떨어졌던 colorado state university의 포닥자리에 2005년 11월 우리가정을 보내셨다. 그곳에는 예전 신시내티능력침례교회 청년부 출신인 두가정이 한인교회 두곳중에 작은 교회에 함께 출석하고 있었다. 그 교회에 함께 조인하면서 하나님이 우리부부를 그곳에 보내신 이유가 한 지역교회를 통해 성도가 일어서고 부흥하는 것을 경험하게 하시는 것이라는 것을 얼마지나지 않아 우리가정은 금방 알수 있었다.
교회에 출석한지 얼마되지 않아 담임목사님께서 사임을 하시면서 그나마 작던 교회가 쓰러지려 할때에 하나님께서는 우리 세가정을 들어 사용하셔서 교회의 모든 운영을 이끌어가게 하셨다. 삼십대 중반이던 세가정이 매주 다른 곳에서 목사님을 모셔서 주일예배가 이루어지게 하고 금요일에는 청년들을 중심으로 성경공부를 하며
토요일 새벽기도를 인도하였다. 어렵고 힘든가운데 청년들가운데 예수님을 만나는 일들이 일어나고 교회를 떠났던 교인들이 다시 교회로 돌아와 신앙생활하는 것을 보게 되면서 우리 가정을 비롯한 모든 교인들이 하나님의 일하심을 철저하게 경험하게 하셨다. 해마다 청년들이 코스타에 참석하며 하나님이 부어주시는 은혜를 누리기도하며 몇명의 자매들이 간사로도 함께 섬기게 되었다. 또한 일년이 조금넘는 기간동안 목사님 청빙을 위해 함께 기도하며 준비하던 그 때에 그리스도의 몸된 교회가 얼마나 중요한 것인지 알게 하시고 이일이 끝나면 우리가정을 다른곳으로 보내시겠구나라는 생각을 했는데 새로운 목사님이 오시고 교회가 안정이 되자 하나님은 삼년 반만에 우리의 처소를 신시내티로 옮기셨다.
신시내티는 아내가 석사를 했던 곳이라 그당시 출석했던 신시내티능력침례교회에 다시 출석하게 되었다. 조인하면서 금방 청년부 사역에 다시 사용받으리라 했던 예상은 어긋나고 생각지도 못했던 신시내티 다운타운에 흑인들을 대상으로 사역하시는 도시빈민선교사역에 동참하게 되었다. 십대쯤되면 형제들은 마약거래로 감옥을 들락거리고 직장을 잡을수없게 되고 자매들은 아버지가 다 다른 아이들을 낳고 기르면서 빈곤과 외면가운데 마약과 술로 삶을 달래는 그곳의 흑인들은 다른 흑인들조차도 상대하기 싫어하는 사람들이다. 저희가 살던 아파트단지에 많이 살았던 흑인들이 무섭고 상대하기 꺼려졌던 저희들이었는데 하나님은 저희들 매주 흑인들을 위해 기도하는 가운데 그들의 속깊은 곳에 자리잡은 아픔과 상처들을 이해하게 하셨고 그들과 생활하는가운데 예수로 인해 변화되는 놀라운 경험들을 함께 하게 하셨습니다. 가난하고 어려운 환경보다 복음이 없슴이 인간에게는 무엇보다도 절망적인 것임을
깨달으며 우리에게 주신 영원한 생명이 얼마나 귀하고 복된 것인지를 깨닫게 되면서 내가 가진 예수를 전하는 것에 대한 확신과 담대함을 주셨습니다. 그과정가운데 직장과 학회에서 만난 다른 나라사람들에게도 복음을 전하는 일가운데 하나님을 모르던 그들이 하나님께 다시 돌아오게 되는 기쁨과 감격을 맛보게 하셨습니다.
작년에 permanent job을 찾던중 한국 교수 job opening을 공지하는 웹사이트에 우연히 들어갔다가 C국 Y대에서 교수를 모집하는 광고를 보게 되었다. 그때에 제가 박사과정을 하던 2000년대 초반에 제가 하나님께 했던 조그만 기도를 하나님은 기억나게 하셨다. Y대 총장님이 교수recruit meeting을 미국전역에서 하시다가 제가 박사과정하던 미시간에 오셨을때에 나도 그모임가운데 있었다. 그때에 “하나님 저도 기회가 되면 Y대같은 곳에서 제가 가진 전공을 가지고 가르치며 복음을 전하게 해주세요.” 라는 기도를 드렸는데 이게 그 기도에 대한 응답이라는 확신을 주셨다. 아내에게 하나님이 주신 비젼을 가정예배가운데 나누었더니 아내가 현실에 대한 두려움과 걱정때문에 이야기도 꺼내기 싫어했다. 마음속으로 “하나님이 주신 비젼이 정말 하나님이 원하시는 일이면 우리 두사람이 한마음이 되게 해주세요”라고 기도했는데 하나님께서는 마태복음 26장의 본문말씀을 BSF 성경공부에서 하는 묵상과 주일예배 설교를 통해서 아내를 세번이나 도전하시고 아내의 마음을 바꾸어주셨다. 순종의 마음으로 나아가는 아내의 마음속에 하나님께서는 기쁨과 평안을 주시고 우리는 한마음으로 하나님의 부르심에 순종하게 되었다.
이제 구월 가을학기부터 하나님이 인도하시는 곳에서 새로운 인생의 여정을 펼치게 된다. 그 부르심의 자리가 가정, 교회, 직장이든 또 내가 지금 살고 있는 곳이던지 다른 곳이던지 그 부르심에 순종하여 보냄을 받는자는 보내시는 우리 하나님으로 인하여 우리의 삶, 우리의 주위에 새로운 생명이 살아나며 풍성해지는 것을 경험하게 하신다. 그리고 그로 인해 우리와 우리의 주변 사람들이 우리 하나님 아버지를 더 잘 알아가게 하신다. 이제 보냄받은 우리 가정을 통하여 하나님이 어떤일들을 이루어 가실지 기대하며 새로운 발걸음을 내딛는다.

약혼자가 된 S와 부모님께 결혼을 허락받기 위해 한국행을 했다. 가는 비행기안에서 많은 생각과 기도를 했다. 문제는 아버지였다. 전통적인 유교문화아래서 자라시고 자수성가하셔서 모든 것을 자기뜻대로 하기를 바라시는 아버지, 하나님을 알지 못하는 아버지는 종교를 가진다는 것을 나약한 인간이 보이지 않는 존재에게 의지하는 그런것이라며 철저히 반대하셨다. 한국에서는 아버지 아래서 하나님을 알수 있는 기회를 가지는 것이 불가능한 것을 아신 하나님 아버지는 유학을 통해 나를 미국으로 이끌어내시며 하나님의 자녀삼으셨다. 부모님과 떨어져있었기에 하나님의 자녀로 자라날 수 있었는데 결혼을 허락받는 것보다 하나님과의 관계에 대해 아버지에게 말씀드리는 것이 중요하겠다는 생각이 들었다.
S의 부모님과 가족들을 만나고서 느낌이 좋았다. 말주변이 있는 사람이 아닌 나를 위해 이것저것 물어봐주시고 따듯한 느낌으로 만나주셨다. 문제는 우리 아버지. 자수성가하셔서 자기 주장이 강하시고 모든 것을 자기 뜻대로 하기를 바라시는 아버지. 결과는 예상대로 반대셨다. 만나볼 필요도 없으시다는 아버지의 의견을 바꿀 수 있는 것은 없었다. 예수님을 믿는 사람이라는 것을 말씀드릴 용기가 없어 일주일을 보내다가 새벽마다 말씀묵상을 위해 펼쳐놓은 성경책을 아버지께서 우연히 발견하시고 집안이 발칵 뒤집혔다. 공부하러보냈더니 연애질이나 하더니, 이제는 예수장이까지 되었냐면서 화를내시는 모습에 미국에 돌아갈 수 있을까 걱정했는데 하룻밤을 주무시더니 하고있는 공부 얼른 끝내고 들어오라는 말씀으로 마치시고 나를 미국으로 다시 보내셨다.
우선은 기다리자라고 함께 마음을 같이 하며 이년을 지냈다. 지역에서 같이 청년연합모임에 있던 한분이 코스타에서 간사로 섬겨보지 않겠냐는 권유에 풀타임자봉을 시작으로 코스타 간사로 섬기기 시작하였다. 졸업도 다가오면서 약혼자는 더이상 미루지 말자고 했다. 9월로 결혼 날자를 잡고 아버지가 반대하시는 상황가운데 한국에서 결혼은 불가능하고 신앙안에서 만난 우리가 축복받으며 새가정을 꾸리기에 적합한 곳은 미국이라 생각이 되어 아내가 공부하고 있던 캔사스시티의 출석교회에서 하기로 하였다. 이년전에 있던 일로 약간은 서원해진 아버지와의 분위기가 박사학위취득이라는 것을 앞두고 약간 회복이 되었다. 5월 졸업식이 있을때에 약혼자도 오라고 하여서 다시한번 결혼의 의사를 밝혔지만 아버지는 약혼자의 얼굴도 쳐다보지 않으시고 투명인간 대하듯 하셨다. 결혼을 앞두고 7월 마지막으로 한번 더 한국을 방문하여 아버지께 허락을 받으려 했으나 문 앞에서 당장 쫓겨났다. 그때에는 정말 미국에 다시 들어올 수 없을거라 생각했는데 마지막으로 남은 논문제출만 하고 돌아오라는 조건하에 다시 미국으로 들어올 수 있었다.

흩어져 외롭게 고군분투하고 있는 형제 자매들에게 힘을 주는 networking이 많이 이루어지면 좋겠습니다. 처음 제가 코스타 집회에 참석하면서 가장 감격스러웠던 것은, 동네 교회에서 고군분투하고 있는 저 같은 사람이 정말 군데군데 많이 있다는 것을 발견한 것이었습니다. 그것 때문에 많이 감격하고 격려를 얻고 돌아갔던 기억이 있습니다. |

첫째로,코스타가 앞으로10년간 더 좋은 모습으로 발전되어 나가는 과정에서 형식보다는 내용의 질을 유지하고 더 높이는데 우선순위를 두고 집중했으면 좋겠습니다.때로는 비슷한 양의 에너지를,형식을 바꾸는 것에 사용하는 것보다 전해지고 나누어지는 내용에 사용할때 더 큰 효과를 볼 수 있다고 생각합니다.
둘째로, 많이 수고하시는 간사님들이 지치지 않으실 수 있도록 새힘을 부어드리는 계기가 정기적으로 있었으면 좋겠습니다. 그래서 우리 간사님들이, 무엇을 위해서 또한 무엇을 향해서 열정을 가지고 코스타 운동에 참여하고 있는지에 관해 뜻과 마음을 다시 새롭게 하실 수 있도록 지원함으로 코스타 운동이 주께서 기뻐하시는 방향으로 더욱 힘을 얻고 갈 수 있었으면 좋겠습니다.
셋째로,코스타 운동이top down과bottom up이 만나는 기회를 제공했으면 좋겠습니다. Top down이라함은 하나님으로부터 우리에게 주어진 은혜와 진리가 선포되는 것이며, bottom up이라함은 코스탄들을 만남으로 하나님께서 어떤 방향으로 우리의 세대를 이끌어가지는지 각지의 현장 상황을 듣고 나누는 것으로 말씀드립니다. |
