수양회장에 도착한 나를 보신 교회 장로님, 집사님들을 반응, “정집사, 은혜 많이 받았는가봐. 얼굴에 광채가 나네.” 연이은 교회 수련회 2박 3일을 보내고 집으로 돌아온 나는 조장으로부터의 이메일을 기다렸다. 우리조원들의 연락처가 담긴 이메일. 조장으로부터 이메일을 받은즉시 나는 캔사스의 S 자매에게 이메일을 보냈다.
수련회에 대해 이야기하면서 잘 돌아갔느냐, 코스타가 끝나고 돌아간 주말은 어떻게 보냈느냐 물으며 이메일을 보냈는데 답장에 잘 지내었다며 코스타동안 받은 은혜가 넘쳤다는 답장을 금방보내 주었다. 다음날 목소리를 듣고 싶어 전화를 걸어 통화를 하고 며칠만에 서로에 대해 좀 더 깊이 알아가고 싶다는 교제에 대한 의사를 표명하면서 우리의 연애를 그렇게 시작이 되었다.
7월말에 멕시코로 단기선교간다는 기도제목을 나누어준 S에게 은혜많이 받고 돌아오라는 편지와 함께 소액의 선교비와, 음료수, 과자를 보내주며 잘 다녀오라고 소포를 보냈는데 그 선물이 S에게는 참으로 감동이 되었었다. 서로를 알아가기에 가장 좋은 방법은 QT를 같이 하는 것이라는 생각이 들어서 S에게 같이 QT를 나누자며 “목적이 이끄는 삶”을 선물로 보냈다. 그이후로 매일 한 과씩을 나누며 삶에 대한 생각과 신앙의 내용들을 나누며 서로를 알아가는 과정을 밟아가게 되었다. QT나눈지 한주도 되지 않아서 내 마음가운데에는 S에 대한 확신이 들었다. “이사람은 하나님이 나에게 허락하신 사람이야”.
9월 초에 Labor day휴일을 맞이하면서 나는 S가 살고있는 캔사스시티에 방문하게 되었다. 두달의 시간동안 많은 것을 알게 되면서 그녀에 대한 그리움이 싹텄다. 공항에 내려 다시 보는 순간, 꿈만 같았다. 주말동안 그녀가 살고있는 환경을 살펴보고 교회의 청년들을 만나게 되면서 그녀가 살아가는 모습들을 더욱 더 잘 알게 되면서
그녀에 대한 나의 확신은 점점 굳어지게 되었다. 그리고 내가 가진 사랑의 마음은 나혼자만의 생각이 아니라 그녀역 시도 같은 마음을 가지고 있다는 느낌을 가지게 되었다.
그녀에게 청혼하겠다는 생각을 굳히고 청혼에 대한 계획을 세우는 것은 오랜시간이 걸리지 않았다. 하나님이 주신 사람이니 하나님앞에서 약속하고 싶어서 교회 청년부에게 부탁해 교회 문을 열어달라는 부탁을 하고 S 몰래 반지사이즈를 알아달라고 부탁하여서 반지를 준비했다. 그리고 청년들몇명을 초대하여서 S가 살고 있던 ministry house에서 조그만 깜짝파티를 준비해달라고 부탁했다.

교회에 가서 기도하고 가자는 말도 되는 말을 하며 교회로 향했다. 그 주에는 마침 교회행사로 본당에 꽃이 가득히 준비되어있었다. 교회 문이 왜 열려있지? 그리고 왜 음악이 나오지? 라고 의아해 하는 S의 손을 잡고 함께 기도하다가 본당 강단에 올라가 그녀에게 청혼을 하였다. 모든 것이 미리 준비된 것임을 알게 된 S는 물론 나의 청혼에 Yes라고 대답했다.
그게 끝인줄 알고 집으로 들어갔을때에 그녀의 ministry house에는 많은 청년들이 장미와 케익과 장식으로 준비한 깜짝파티에 그녀는 눈물을 흘리고 말았다. 하나님께서 주신 번뜩이는 아이디어와 믿음의 형제자매들의 도움으로 내 생애 최고의 밤을 그렇게 보내었다.

환란을 바라보는 데는 3가지 접근법이 있습니다. 1. 신명기적 접근은 인과응보적 해석입니다. 2. 애가형은 하나님이 잘 못 한다고 생각하고 하나님 탓하는 접근입니다. 3. 욥기형은 창조의 신비에 속한 고난입니다. 데살로니가인들은 유대인 회당과 동족으로부터 고난을 받았습니다. 그들은 복음으로 인해 로마 시민권이 아니라 하나님의 시민권을 자랑하게 하는 대역전을 경험한 사람들입니다. 그들은, 환난과 궁핍 가운데서도 우리를 붙드시는 목양사역에 대해서 배우게 됩니다.

형제님이 가장 못하는 대인관계를 이용해서 하신다고 합니다. 자신이 잘 못하는 것인지라, 나를 자랑할 수가 없다는 고백을 하셨습니다. 이런 일을 할 능력을 가진 사람은 많이 있을 것 같은데, 본인과 같은 마음을 가지고 할 수 있는 분은 많지 않은 것 같다고, 마음과 순종의 중요성을 강조했습니다.

“인간에게 고난의 문제는 일상적인 문제입니다. 자신의 고난의 문제에서도, 다른 사람의 고난의 상황에서 다수는 인과응보의 관점에서 찾습니다. 하지만, 본문에 나오는 소경에게 고난은 새창조를 위한 재료이었습니다. 예수님께서는 ‘세상의 빛으로’ 보내심 받은 일을 하셨습과 또 ‘우리’를 보내셨습니다. 우리 안에 이 맹인과 제자들이 다 포함됩니다. 맹인과 이 이야기를 듣고있는 제자들이 하나님의 일을 하셨듯이, 불행이 만연한 이 세상에서 하나님이 하시는 일을 나타내도록 우리를 보내셨습니다. 보냄받은 사람의 삶은 행복이 계속되는 그런 것이 아니라 고난의 삶입니다. 그것은 맹인의 경우에서도 드러납니다. ….보냄받은 자의 여정은 불안하고 답답한 경우가 많지만, 점점 더 예수님을 알아가게 됩니다. 본문에 나오는 맹인의 경우 더 깊은 단계로 ‘주’로 고백할 수 있는 단계로 나아갔습니다.

첫째는,코스타 운동의 순수성과 열정을 가진 코스타 간사님들을 recruit하고retention할 수 있는 구조를 갖추어 나가는 것이라고 생각합니다.안보이는 곳에서 수고하시는 간사님들에게 심한 과부하가 걸리지 않도록 충분한 숫자의 간사님들이 세워질 수 있고,더 중요하게는 이 분들이 섬김의 스타일과 모양은 각각 다를지라도 예수님 안에서 한 마음으로harmony를 이룰 수 있는 분들을 세우는 구조가 필요하지 않을까 생각합니다.
둘째는, 코스타 프로그램이 말씀의 깊이에 있어서 순수함과 영적 탁월함을 계속 유지해 나아가는 것 또한 중요하다고 생각합니다. 이것은 유명 무명과 관계없이 믿음의 순수함과 내공이 탁월한 강사님들을 코스타에 모시는 것으로 가능하며, 이런 순수함과 탁월함을 유지함으로써 믿음 생활의 mentor가 필요하거나resource가 부족한 사람들이, 어디로 가야할지 모를때에도 안심하고 찾아와서 충전되거나 배워갈 수 있는 곳이 되어주는 것이 필요하다고 생각합니다.
셋째는,코스타라는 이름을 신뢰하고 코스타에 열린 마음으로 찾아온 코스탄들을 위해서,충분히 설득되지 않으면 그 마음을 열지 않는 세대가 그 마음을 열어준 기회를 놓치지 않는 코스타가 되었으면 좋겠습니다.그렇게 때문에 아직 마음을 열지 못하고 코스타를 참여하신 분들이 마음을 열기 위한 프로그램도 준비되어야 하겠지만,이미 마음을 열고 온 코스탄들의 “이제 위로는 되었고, what’s next?”라는 질문에 영적 통찰력과 깊이 있고 강력한 진리의 선포와 경험의 나눔으로 시원한 대답을 해줄 수 있는 코스타가 되었으면 하는 바램입니다. |

– 교회와의 협력관계는 모든 기독청년연합운동의 영원한 과제(재정 후원, 참가 지원, 이미지 등). 코스타 기간중에 시카고 지역 목회자들을 위한 간단한 세미나를 열던 것을 확대해 1박2일 또는 2박3일 미주 전역에서 100-200명 정도가 참여하는 <젊은 목회자들을 위한 프로그램>을 intensive하게 갖는 건 어떨까. 강사 풀을 활용하고, 저녁시간은 공유하는 것도 방안일듯.
– 기혼 그룹의 참가 증대로 Kids와 Youth 프로그램 운영해야 오는 데서 오는 버거움이 눈에 띄고, 갈수록 늘어날 것 같은데, 적절한 대책을 마련해야 할듯.
– 코스타에 다녀 온 이후 KOSTAN들의 성경 보는 눈, 교회를 보는 눈, 세상을 보는 눈이 한 뼘쯤 자랄 수 있도록 성경과 기독교에 대한 기본기는 언제나 강화해야 하고. QT와 기초성경공부 훈련, 좋은 책을 통해 평생학습하는 방법 등은 변함없이 강조돼야.
– 여전히 가장 신뢰할만한 청년연합운동이란 평판은 있지만, 더 이상 과거의 영광에 기대고 안주해선 곤란하고, 참가자(potential 참가자 포함)들의 필요를 적확하게 파악, 제공하려는 노력이 필요할듯(구체적인 방안이나 대안은 여러 사람들의 지혜를 모으셔야^^). |

교회와 주변 청년들을 통해서 코스타에 대해서는 많이 들어서 잘 알고 있었던 나였지만 정작 여름에는 늘 연구를 위해 미국에 남아 있었던 나였기에 늘 코스타에 참석할 의지는 별로 없었다. 그 당시는 미국에서 시작된 신앙 생활이 벌써 10년이 다 되어가면서 나에게는 내 신앙에 대해 진지하게 생각해볼 계기가 필요한 상황이었고 또한 나이도 결혼 적령기를 넘어서고 있지만 과연 나의 가정 환경을 무릅쓰고 나와 결혼해줄 자매가 있을까 하는 생각이 가득한 때었다.
코 스타에 참석하고 싶다는 마음에 연초부터 등록시작을 기다리다가 등록이 시작되자마자 등록을 하고 코스타에 참석하게 되었다. 2003년에는 “세상속의 순결한 그리스도인”이란 주제로 그리스도인으로 어떻게 살아갈 것인가에 대해 진지하게 생각하는 가운데 말씀 선포와 기도 가운데 하나님의 크신 사랑과 은혜에 감격하는 시간들을 보내었다.
우리 조는 나이가 좀 많은 축에 속하는 조였다. 그 중에 막내로 우리 조에는 모두 형, 누나였다. 은혜 가운데 한 주를 보내는 동안 우연찮게 같은 시간을 더 보내게 된 자매가 있었다. 자원봉사로 세미나 녹음을 신청했는데 자원봉사자 모임에 가보니 같은 조에 속한 캔사스에서 온 S 자매도 세미나 녹음 자봉을 위해 와 있었다. 2인 1조로 세미나 녹음 자봉을 하게 되는데 같은 조이니 같이 하자고 해 우리 두 사람은 자연스럽게 개인적으로 함께 시간을 보내며 서로에 대해 알수 있는 시간들을 가지게 되었다. 어디 살았는지, 학교는 어디나 왔는지 이야기를 나누던 가운데 우리는 생각보다
가까운 곳에서 생활했었음을 알게 되면서 공감대를 쉽게 형성할 수 있었다. 같이 서울시 은평구에서 초, 중, 고 생활을 했었고 어렸을적에 불광동에 살면서 동네에 있었던 기독교수양관이라는 곳에서 놀았던 기억이 있는 나의 말에, S는 그 기독교수양관에 여름마다 캠프도 갔었고 나중에는 캠프 선생님도 했었다는 이야기를 하며 우리 어렸을적 그 언젠가 서로 만났을지도 모른다고 이야기하며 연결의 끈을 놓지 않았다.

세미나 자봉을 온 많은 사람들이 자신이 듣고 싶어하는 세미나의 녹음만을 하려하다보니 인기없는 “선교”쪽에 속한 세미나에는 아무도 녹음을 하고 싶어하는 사람들이 없었다. 아무도 안가는 쪽에 가는 선교세미나를 함께 녹음하면서 서로의 부족함을 채워주고 도와주는 역할을 하면서 내 마음속에 “혹시 이자매?” 라는 생각이 들기 시작했다.
매일 조별모임을 가지고 나눔의 시간을 가질때에 S 자매가 가지고 있는 세계관과 가치관이 참 나와 맞다고 생각을 하며 조 안에서 한 주를 생활하는 가운데 남을 배려할 줄 알면서도 남들과 대화를 잘 이끌어나가는 그 자매의 모습가운데 마음속에서는 그 자매에 대한 호감이 생기기 시작했다.
그 당시 내가 출석하고 있던 교회의 전교인 수련회가 코스타가 끝나는 주말에 있어서 나는 폐회 예배를 드리기 전에 코스타를 떠나야만 했다. 예배를 들어가기 전에 조원들과 헤어짐의 작별을 하고 차에 탔는데 내 마음속에 그 자매에 대한 그리움이 울컥 넘쳤다. 예전에 없었던 나의 마음 상태에 나도 어리둥절해 하며 뒤에서 뒤통수라도 다시 한번 보고 싶은 마음에 차를 잠시 세우고 에드만 채플에 들어가 우리 조를 찾았다. 멀리 뒤에서 그녀의 모습을 보며 “안녕”이란 인사를 속으로 하고 발길을 돌리는데 태어나서 그렇게 무거운 나의 발걸음은 그 때가 처음이자 마지막이었다.

눅10장에 예수님이 보내신 70인과 비교할수 있다. 보냄받은 사람들은 예수님께로 부터 임무와 권력을 각 분량대로 받아 하나님 나라를 전하는 자들이다. 그들은 전파하는 임무 외에는 다른 것에 걱정도 신경도 쓰지 않는 자들이다.
오늘 우리에게 어떻게 적용할 것인가?
보냄받은 자들은 이 세상속에서 하나님 나라를 표현하는 자들이다. 의식주는 하나님의 책임이다. 나를 위한 삶이 아니라 전파를 위한 삶을 사는 사람들이다. 이런 삶은 행동 보다 어떤 사람인가 즉 그 사람의 중심이 더 중요하다. 행위와 말은 그 내면이 결국 표현되게 되기 때문이다. 그래서 하나님께서도 사람을 보실때 그의 중심을 보신다.

인생에 대한 자세에 있어서 보냄받은 사람들은 태어난 환경을 받아들인다. 그것은 자신의 부모와 환경, 외모, 여건 등 즉, 자신의 노력으로 바꿀수 없는 사항에 대한 받아들임을 의미한다.
하나님에 대한 자세에 대해서는 모든 삶의 결실에 대해 감사함으로 받아들인다.
일에 대한 자세에 있어서, 어떤 일을 할 때 주된 목적이 자신의 노력에 대한 대가를 얻기 위함도 또 자신이 인정받기 위함에 있지 않고 일의 원래 목적을 달성하는데 있다.
우선순위에 있어 “나” 보다 “하나님 나라”가 더 중요한 사람들이다. 이것은 자신의 감정, 외모, 자아가 가장 중요시 여겨지는 이 세대가 받아들이기 가장 힘든 사항들이다.
이 세상을 거스려야 하는 가치관을 가진 사람들이다. 다수와는 다른, 말씀에 주어진 가치관을 소유한 사람들이다.
예수의 주 되심이 인정되는 것과 하나님 공의의 실현됨이 모든 목적의 근원되는 철학을 소유한 사람들이다.
수고에 대한 기대에 있어, 하나님 나라 실현이 너무 중요하고 절실하게 여겨지기 때문에 자신이 하나님 나라에 대해 수고하고 있다는 것이 무의식에도 자리잡고 있지 않는 사람이 보냄받은 사람들이다.
이런 사람이 구체적으로 무슨 직업을 가지고 무슨 일을 하는지는 전혀 중요하지 않다. 이런 사람은 무서운 전염성을 가지고 있기 때문에 가까이에서 전염되지 않고는 부담이 되어 함께 지내는 것이 쉽지 않다.
그럼 어떻게 이런 사람이 될수 있는 것인가?
중심이 바로 선 자: 예수의 십자가 보혈에 깊이, 그리고 오래동안, 잠겨있던 자들이 이런 사람이 될 수 있다.
생각이 변화한 자: 오이지가 소금에 절여진 것 처럼 말씀에 항상 완전히 절여진 자들이 이런 사람이 될 수 있다.
가장 불행한 사람
